Sundry Fallen London improvements

By Failbetter, August 14, 2015 · Fallen London

We carried out a substantial server migration yesterday – you’ll have noticed the site is much snappier. We’ve also added a number of features today. These are pretty abstract-sounding things, but high-level players will be very interested, and generally they’ll lead to a smoother experience.

Player hand persistence

When a player switches settings now (eg from London to At Zee), their Opportunity Card hand will be restored from the last time they were in that location. We keep a record of the state of your hand in every setting of the game separately. This means you won’t lose that treasured Opportunity card when you really want to visit Flute Street. (Some areas, like Heists, still clear your hand when you come back for another go.)

Linked events + sometimes cards

If you follow a link from an Opportunity card to another event, it will be added to your hand. This means, if you choose to go back, it’ll be accessible from your hand. NOTE: If you had a full hand when you were linked to this even, it will still be added to your hand. This will appear to displace the least recently acquired card, but that card is in fact just hidden. Once you play, or discard, a card it will be restored.

Event transiency

You will now be booted out of certain storylets if you lose the qualities they require while you’re in one.

If you see any weird behaviour, let us know at support@failbettergames.com!

I don’t know if we are still sharing whale dermas here, but I had another such dream three nights ago.In my dream, I was on a surreal trip, or series of trips (kept repeating, with different images in the “tunnel”), down into a whale’s belly or womb. The “tunnel” was the rib cage [kind of reminded me of your dream description, Amy], and there were disembodied, ghostly heads floating by, and strange inscriptions, and time stamp clocks. One of my companions was “stamped” with a number and became like a mindless Monty Python-esque grayscale cartoon character. He then got on a cartoon bus going in the “wrong” direction. I continued on, and there seemed to be others with me: we had to get to the belly or womb to assist in the “birth.”If it were your dream, what would it mean?

Ouch, so I'll no longer be able to get rid of non-discardable cards by switching locations? :(

Does this mean I could get into a storylet because of my equipment raising a skill, then get kicked out of it if I forget and change equipment?
