Update 0.1.3, "Ruby"

The latest update for Sunless Sea is now available to Explorer-level backers via the Humble Bundle download site.

IMPORTANT! Before you do anything else, Check for New Content with the menu button and update your content.

ALSO IMPORTANT! When you're downloading new content, the bar may stick at the end for a while. It's still going - don't cancel! We're working on optimising this - just grab yourself a cup of your preferred hot beverage and it'll be done when you get back.

Meta

  • You can now update content from the main menu without needing to start a new game
  • Content updates can now include more substantial changes - you may occasionally see an island move slightly to the left, for instance
  • Save games can be deleted
Survival

  • Terror effects are much clearer. Staying near coastlines and light, and leaving your prow light on, will greatly mitigate terror.
  • Hunger now increases more slowly, but is multiplied by current # of crew
  • If you have less than half your full complement of Crew, you cannot move at full speed
  • If you have less than a quarter of your full complement of Crew, loneliness will bedevil you, increasing Terror faster
  • Fuel is now used more quickly - its use is influenced by Engine Power and by any Fuel Efficiency officers and items
  • Your Engine Power and the Weight of your ship determines the speed you travel.
  • Adding extra fuel to your boiler will still increase your speed, but will from time to time cause terrible disasters
  • Reassigning officers outside port will cause uncertainty, and a small Terror increase.
Content

  • Shepherd's Wash, with three ports, is now available. The third of these ports contains a teaser for a substantial story written by Emily Short, in a surprise guest appearance... it'll open in the next content update.
  • The Khan's Heart placeholder is available to visit, although there's only one good reason to do so.
  • Many more ships are available, although you may have trouble finding engines powerful enough for the largest
  • Infidelity is no longer rewarded
  • Numerous lighting and terrain changes
  • The Genial Magician storyline can now be concluded
  • Many more content updates have popped since the last major patch - see /sunless-sea-content-updates
Bug fixes

This is not an exhaustive list! but if you see something from here that still looks broken - please tell us.

  • Beastie population now remains higher
  • We've added a frame limit that should help with overheating on some machines
  • The invisible island east of Port Cyril has been removed
  • It should no longer be possible to overshoot Max Hull and Crew Quarters
  • Shops are no longer available at zee after playing a storylet
  • Something Awaits You no longer resets on game load
  • Rich difficulty requirements (a fancy content thing) now work
  • The Naturalist quality no longer lives inside visible tags (and is now Antiquarian)
  • Non-available combat acts are now actually non-available
  • There is only one Mt Nomad (still in text form)
  • Assaying goods should now give a value in Echoes
  • Buoys are no longer composed entirely of deadlium
  • The Comatose Ferret can now only be consumed once (and other Officers should not be available after death or departure)
Additional fixes in 0.1.3.1

  • it should no longer be necessary to launch and immediately redock when storylets inexplicably vanish
  • it should not be possible to overfuel at fuel 0
  • various engine shenanigans fixed
  • Terror music no longer loops menacingly forever
  • Terror counter no longer flickers and winces
  • Jettison screen has straightened up and will fly right
  • Various prices fixed
  • Hunger now bites.
