ANYTHING NICE: Assassin's Creed 4 (some Canadian indie, I think?)
This has got to be a back-handed compliment, so let's get to it... I gave up on Assassin's Creed 3. There's obviously lots of great stuff in there, but I played through a metafiction prologue then a metafiction tutorial then another prologue then a tutorial prologue then a cut scene and *then* the *opening credits* rolled... and my reaction was, blimey, I don't have that much time.
Assassin's Creed 4 dumped me into a chase scene on a lovely tropical island and let me go chase. It explained the plot to me later, once I was interested.
Appreciate it, folks.

'Anything Nice' is is a series of very short posts highlighting things I liked about the treatment of narrative in other people's games. It's a deliberately magpie, grab-bag approach. Some of these games I adore, some I don't even like, but I learnt from all of them.
